Having previously made some redundancies you now need more staff due to an upturn in work. When is it safe to start recruiting again after making staff redundancies?
A last resort
Redundancies should always be a last resort. During the redundancy process the employer is also required to investigate and offer any suitable alternative employment to redundant employees.
Where suitable alternative employment can't be offered, employees can be let go but are entitled to receive a statutory redundancy payment if they have at least two years' continuous service.
